SWEET DEVOTION: KYA AND AMIRA
The identities of queer Black women have been relentlessly politicized, so much so that our very existence is treated like an act of rebellion.

But why must our joy be revolutionary to be acknowledged? Why can’t we just be? Why can’t our love, our intimacy, our connection be recognized as something tender, sacred, and deeply human rather than “brave,” or reduced to some performative “statement”?

Yes, there is immense power in our love. In our voices, in our presence. But must we always scream to be heard? Must we always fight to be seen?

I’m tired of having to justify my existence through resistance. I want to exist freely, to show the world what Black queer womanhood and sapphic connection mean to me, without seeking permission, without needing applause, without being forced to carry the weight of an entire movement every time I breathe.

This is a project rooted in appreciation. This is not a performance. This is not a protest.

This is a declaration.

A reclamation.

A celebration of love that answers to no one but us.
